Pediatric Intensive Care
Our pediatric intensive care unit is the only one in the region. As a member of this team, you will help care for critically ill and injured children, from very small infants to teenagers. You’ll treat their medical conditions and involve their families in their care. Your patients may be:
-
Children with life-threatening illnesses, such as severe infections, breathing problems, and seizures.
-
Severely injured children admitted through our Level 1 Trauma Center or Regional Burn Center. The Trauma Center is the only one in our region with special expertise in caring for children.
-
Children with complex medical problems, including children who are dependent on ventilators and other technical devices. Our goal is to allow children facing such conditions to live life as normal outside the hospital.
-
Children in hospice care who receive their primary care at home and who occasionally require inpatient care to relieve pain or adjust their medical care.
Pediatric Inpatient Care
Staying in the hospital can be very scary for some children. As a pediatric nurse you can calm these fears while providing them superior care. You’ll work on a nursing team near patient rooms, instead of at nursing stations. This means you’ll spend more time with patients and less time on administrative duties. In addition to caring for patients, you’ll care for their families too; ensuring they have the support and comfort they need.
Neonatal Intensive Care
On our neonatal intensive care unit you’ll care for critically ill newborns who require the highest level of care. This unit is recognized as a national leader in neonatal care quality by the Vermont Oxford Network for providing the highest level of care in a family-centered environment.
You’ll perform advanced treatments and use leading-edge technology like a high frequency oscillator, which provides very low pressure ventilation and prevents damage to a newborn’s lung tissue that may occur with pressure ventilation. This specialty requires a high-skill level, as well as compassion for family members. This page last updated 2/12/08 04:08 PM
